Paul & Richard ride LEJOG for Phyllis Tuckwell: Let the Blogging Begin

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Two men, two bikes and no work to stop them.

If you make the map small enough it doesn't look that far. If you are a crow, then it's a reasonable distance. If you are two middle-aged men, picking a route, then it is about 1,100 miles!

LEJOG is an epic and iconic bike ride, from the tip of Cornwall to the top of the Scottish mainland.

Paul is a seasoned cyclist with many miles under his belt. Richard is a more recent convert to the way of the bike. As well as friendship, what they also have in common is a love of getting out on the road, track or trail.

Why?

As well as doing LEJOG for the adventure, we are also hoping to raise funds along the way for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care charity.

This is the only hospice across West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire providing free services and support to ensure patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness can make the most of their lives…because every day is precious!

Both Paul and Richard know what great work this charity does, which is why they are self-funding this challenging end-to-end event – so every pound pledged is donated to the hospice.

Your support will not only spur them on but help fund the very best in end-of-life care.

If you would like to donate please visit our JustGiving page.

A little more detail

We plan to complete the journey in 15 stages, with a few much-needed rest days for our old legs.

Training is underway

Our adventure training has already begun, with rides on and off road around Surrey and Hampshire. So far we have been very lucky that the rain has stayed away for almost all the sessions, although temperatures have been pretty low. As well as getting the miles in, we have made sure to include coffee stops along the way.

We are learning more about cycling nutrition as we go, with a variety of tablets, bars, gels and home-cooked goodies being trialled. Jelly babies are already a standard travelling companion.

Here are a few photos from our rides in January and February.
